The Brod and Posavina county stretches for 120 kilometres along the left side of the river Sava as far north to the Pozega and Dilj range. It is split on two units: lowland which is actually placed by the river Sava and the hill part that is mostly covered with forests. The county is full of arable land, vineyards and woods of oak that are centuries old.
In the past, in Roman times, it was a crossroads over the Sava and connection to Rome where Roman traces are visible even today. For example, Slavonski Brod was first mentioned in 1244 as Vila Brod in the charter of Hungarian King Bela IV.
The center of Slavonia is Slavonski Brod, an industrial centre and port on the river Sava and also Nova gradiska is very important as well with its St. Theresa Church, the building of the old court and the first post office in the Balkans.
The county is some kind of traffic connection from Western Europe to the East with many railways, roads, river traffic, telecommunications... and from eastern Europe with the Adriatic as well.
