One of the newest attractions to Croatia is the Island Lastovo Nature Park. Declared a Nature Park in September 2006, this chain of forty-four small islands is located in the Adriatic Sea. Settled in the middle of the Sea, these islands are considered one of the best nature preserves in the world, home to natural splendor above the ground and below the water.

The reason the Croatian government chose to set aside the Lastovo archipelago as a Nature Park was in to keep its rare, unfettered beauty in its most pristine condition. Now travelers can come and visit and enjoy nature as it was intended to be enjoyed, free from too much human influence. Above ground, visitors can expect to see beautiful landscapes and unique plant and animal life. The islands themselves are full of rocky inlets, pine forests, and sand-covered coves that are ideal for hiking.
The underwater experience is just as riveting. The islands are full of beautiful fish and reefs, and underwater adventures include exploring the many cliffs and caves that sit beneath the waters. Boating and other water activities are a must when visiting.
Parts of Lastovo are populated, with the largest port being Ubli. Since being declared a Natural Park, the government has encouraged the residents there to focus on natural forms of agriculture to help preserve the natural integrity of the islands. The towns are also great for visitors to check out in order to experience authentic Croatian food, and visitors who travel there during the early part of August can also enjoy a yearly festival in Lastovo, which brings in musical entertainment from around the world.
Though the tourism industry is still relatively new in Lastovo, with the islands now considered to be a Natural Park, there is a real emphasis on the natural beauty of the park and visitors are asked to help keep Lastovo the natural wonder that it is.
