Fažana
History
The small fishing town of Fazana tells secrets of nights and days by the sea. Dating back to 1150 it has maintained its traditions of farming and fishing. It also is the home of some beautiful old churches. 
St Eliseus was built in the 6th century, Our Lady of Mount Carmel was built in the 14th century and St John was constructed in the 16th century. The Venetians had an impact on this beautiful place and there are traces of them in the old part of town. The buildings, streets and stone houses are from that early period.
The town started to develop into a health resort and retreat for the elite years ago. Some of the hotels in town still offer services that refresh and rejuvenate the body and the mind. At one time there was a toffee and Liqueur factory, a fish processing plant, a shipyard, a bakery and boat connections between Trieste and other Adriatic ports.
Culture
In 1983 the Brijuni Islands which are just opposite Fazana became a National Park, so tourism began to increase. People came to enjoy the unspoiled beaches and local festivals that were held every year. There’s a fisherman’s festival and the Brodetto festival, the Gastronomy festival and there is a local competition called Festa od kuzine, where people prepare dishes under a baking lid. One cultural event is sponsored by Pilchard, a small fishing academy that promotes Fazana as a fishing town. 
Pilchard educates people in marine ecology, fishing and anything related to fishing.

The town takes great pride in meal preparation. Every meal is a wonderful experience. The beach area offers fresh fish, lobster, lamb, and an assortment of salads and breads. Daytime activities include: Swimming, diving, surfing, fishing, biking, boating backpacking, mountain hikes and just about anything else you can think of. Surfboard rental, a surfing school, paddleboat rental are all part of the beach experience.
