The breathtaking Island of Silba is located within the Zadar archipelago, just southeast of Mali Losinj Island, right between right in the middle of neighboring islands Premuda and Olib. Silba is part of a cluster of rather small, inhabited islands in Croatia. The island is roughly 8.4 km in length and comprises a total of 15 sq/km. The closest mainland city is Zadar, and it is roughly 30 nautical miles form the island. Every day, ferry and boats make their way back and forth from Zadar, a trip which takes 2 to 3 hours.

The island is rich with vegetation and stunning graveled or sandy little bays that play a key role for vacationers looking to experience the islands untouched nature. Silba was also nominated for status as a Nature Park as well. On this splendid island you will discover travel agencies, post, shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants.

History

Right around the 8th century, the Croats began to settle the island of Silba. They started off breeding cattle, and they were obligated to provide the noblemen of  Zadar with one-fourth of all their agricultural products and cattle, because the Croats were their colonists. And because of the islands sterile soil, they turned to fishing. And beginning in the 16th century, the Croats began to orientate towards shipping.

When it comes to recreation and sports, Silba boasts of a variety of entertaining sports. For starters, how does a refreshing jog through Silba’s rich woods sound? The island also features two tennis courts and it will run you around 40-60 Kn per hour to play. Volleyball is another popular sport you can enjoy on the island. It doesn’t cost anything and the court is located on Sotorisce, Silba’s most popular beach, and is just 5 meters from the Adriatic Sea. If volleyball isn’t your game, you can try your hand at football, handball or basketball. Close to the basketball courts is a place where you can rent a rowboat or play table tennis. Do you enjoy windsurfing? You can rent a sail and a windsurfing board quite easily. Silba’s winds usually are not too strong and are perfect for both amateurs and pros alike. Lastly, the island has a mini-golf course that you can play during the day or during the night. At nightfall, the course is illuminated by hundreds of lights for round the clock mini-golf enjoyment.

How to reach us

The only way to get to Silba is by sea. They don’t allow any form of transport, including cars, on the island. If you began your travel by car, you will need to leave the vehicle on the mainland in whichever city you decide to depart from on the boat to Silba. The main port cities in which to do this are Novalja, Rab, Rijeka, Koper, Pula, Mali Losinj, and Zadar. Each of these locales offer paid parking.
