Murter is the largest island in the Sibenik archipelago in central Dalmatia where are settled some important places: Murter, Tisno, Jezera and Betina. Arround the island are placed numerous small island with beautiful bays, beaches and camps like are Slanica, Kosirina i Lovišće.

The island is connected to the mainland with narrow bridge ( 37m long bridge), and because of it´s position, beautiful beaches ( sandy, pebble ) and other attractive facilities Murter has became the most popular touristic location in this part of Adriatic. Tourism is the main occupation on the island and it is based on agriculture, fishing and mostly on groving olives. Here you will find good qualitiy of accomodations as well. The island Murter is famous for untouched nature, interesting contens for all age in any time of year. Here you will find kind hosts which will offer you oppurtunity to enjoy in your vacation. Try some of traditional specialities, home made olive oil and most of all good wine and fish.
History
This island is populated since the early middle-ages by the Illyrians. An antique town Colentium left its ruins on the island and archeological investigations showed that it had typical antique architecture, houses built with floors, cisterns for the water, thermae and narow streets made of stone. There are also discovered luxury villas. It assumes that pirates have robbed and destroyed the island but there are also clues that a big earthquake destroyed it. First there were only 2 settlements on the island - Murter and Jezera, and in 16th century there were two more built - Betina and Tisno. Betina is a settlement where in 1740 was built a shipyard in which the wooden boats are also made today. Jezera is a settlement that was formed before the 1298. People here do fishing, agriculturing and tourism is developing. Murter is a settlement where is placed Baroque altar from 18th century. Tisno is the youngest settlement on the island. In Tisno is placed a movable bridge that connects the island with the mainland.

There is few private galleries on the island and every year on the 8th September is held a festivity for the so called "Vela Gospa".

Nightlife
Every settlement on the island has its traditional coastal festivities and there are many coffee bars. Near Murter there is a nightclub Hacienda, very popular summer destination for all those who want to see and hear worldknown DJ's.

How to reach us
By personal vehicle from any part of Europe over the bridge; by plane to the nearest airports in Zadar or Split; by boat since Murter is connected with Zadar and Split that have sea connections with Italy; by train from the train station in Šibenik; by bus from the bus stations in Zagreb, Šibenik and Zadar.
