History 
Archeological finds show that this island was colonized before the Christ and many remains of culture of that ancient civilization were found here. Their culture is special for its painted ceramic. The Illyrians established here a town Pharos on the place of today's Old City. After the reign of Greeks, Hvar becomes a part of Roman Empire and after a part of Byzantium. When the Slavs started to colonize Croatian spaces, Hvar became a part of Principality of Neretva and its inhabitants started to use the Croatian language, culture and names. Like the other parts of Croatia, Hvar was under many different monarchs. From 15th 'til 18th century this island was the main seaport of Venice. In 18th century Hvar was under the rule of Habsbourg Monarchy and in 20th century gets under the French Empire during the Napoleon's reign. In this century the island passes trough development: all the seaports were improved, Hvar gets industrialized, cadastral register was made and the island had its own trading marine. After the dissolution of Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, Hvar gets under the reign of Italy and soon after becomes a part of Yugoslavia and, like all parts of Croatian territory after the Croatian War for Independence, becomes a part of Independent State of Croatia.
The fort of Hvar is placed on a hill and today's appearance got in 16th century when it had to be reconstructed because it was ruined in an explosion. Today is a place where are proudly kept amphorae and other antique founds. On the main square in the city Hvar you can visit the church of St. Stjepan. One of the most beautiful late-Gothic palaces in the world is placed on Hvar. The built of the palace started in 15th century but unfortunately it was never finished.

Nightlife
In the center of the city Hvar on the main square of St. Stjepan is always crowded with people. When the night comes there are coffee bars where

During the day there is a lot of sport activities that you can do. Hvar has arranged playgrounds for football, hand ball, basketball, volleyball... There are also activities such as diving, sailing, hiking, trekking, parasailing, sea kayaking, rock climbing... How to reach us
Hvar can be reached: by personal vehicle or by bus from any part of Europe and then by ferry from the mainland on the island; by plane you can come to the airport in Dubrovnik; by boat and if you have your own boat you can anchor in one of Hvar's marine.
