Dugi Otok is the biggest island of Zadar's archipelago, placed in the central position in Adriatic Sea which is a reason for good and favourable weather on the island. Dugi Otok is a famous as a quiet destination, ideal for tourists that prefer peace and the natural beauties.
The whole island is full of variety of morphology, with many differences in height. The surrounding is interesting place for trekkings and for those who want to explore the nature.
The Saharun is situated in the north part of this special island- a shore white sandy beach that is ideal for families with little children.
In the south there is the deep bay of Telascica that is suitable for walking through the park up to the bay and also is achievable with ships from the sea. The main attraction of the Natural Park of Telascica is the salt lake - a drainage area of 2 km of length full of lukewarm water with a high concentration of salt.
Near the coast of Dugi Otok there is the National Park of Kornati- picturesque landscape with 147 islands, numeruos charming shores and untouched nature.
History
One of the first inhabitants came on Dugi Otok during the Paleolithic and they left their traces here. Next came the Illyrians and Romans that have
made their villages, which exist today and some of them are Omišenjak, Koženjak and Veli Brčastac. The Romans built here "Villae Rusticae" and the ruins can be seen even today. During the early-Christian and Pre-Romanesque time, on the island were built many churches and in next centuries were built Baroque and Manneristic buildings. Sali is a settlement and a port on Dugi Otok. It got its name for the saltworks that were active here in the past. In Sali you can find many ancient churches and sacral objects. The church of St. Ivan was built in 5th or 6th century. The church of St. Viktor is a Pre-Romanesque church that was built from 8th 'til 9th century. The church of St. Rok is mentioned for the first time in 17th century and it is very valuable architectonic exponent of that time. On Dugi Otok you can see also the Reinassance houses and a Baroque house of family Petricioli from 17th century.
Culture
Art
"Saljske užance" is a folk festivity that is held every year. The festivity starts one week before the fete of the Great Lady and it lasts for few days. During these days the inhabitants of Dugi Otok and Sali present their tradition and habits.

There is no museums on Dugi Otok but all historical heritage is kept and can be seen in other museums in the town Zadar, which is located near this island.

There is also a Nature Park "Telešćica" where sailors like to come since that is one of the safest natural coves in the world.
How to reach us
Dugi Otok is connected with the main land with boat and ferry. By bus, peronal vehicle or train you can get to the town Zadar and from there with the sea connection on the Island of Dugi Otok. Also you can reach the island by plane since there are an airports in Zadar and Split.
