Central Croatia is a large area on the north-eastern part of Croatia and is defined by the rivers Sava, Drava and Mura, it borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the south and Slovenia and Hungary in the north. Term “central” is in use because of the geographical position. It lies between two large regions, in the south-west the mountainous part and the Slavonian plain in the east.

This large area includes 8 counties: Zagreb, Bjelovar-Bilogora, Sisak-Moslavina Krapina- Zagorje, Varaždin, Međimurje, Koprivnica-Križevci and Karlovac. Some of the main cities in these regions are Zagreb, Varazdin, Cakovec, Sisak, Krizevci, Velika Gorica,Koprivnica, Bjelovar, Karlovac, Petrinja, Samobor, Zapresic, Krapina, Ivanec...
The continental region with a large number of valleys, hills, lot of small villages that are surrounded by vineyards, forests and castles which once belonged to the aristocracy. It si also an area that contains many preserved urban places dating from the Middle Ages, romantic castles, palaces and manor houses, splendid churches, and museums so we can say that it has a rich cultural and historical heritage.
Krapina is the biggest town in the Croatian Zagorje where you can find the remains of a Neanderthal prehistoric man, Franciscan church, Veliki Tabor, a medieval fort from the15th century and the castle Miljana from the 17th century. North from Krapina is the castle of Trakošćan dating from the Middle Ages that has a famous lake, the most beautiful of its kind in Croatia.
Central Croatia has a good offer of congressional, business and rural tourism and offer accommodations in apartments, pensions, and rooms. Here you can try some of traditional cuisines and also a variety of activities such as horse riding, hunting, sports fishing... Congressional and business tourism is mostly developed in Zagreb.
