Umag History and Culture

Picturesque town Umag has settled on the north-western coast of Istria, this amazing peninsula. Firstly was situated and built on a small island on the Roman building remains and kept the Middle Ages structure of the town. The Roman colony has fortressed the town and connected to the land. After the Romans, Umag was conquered by the Croats. Anyhow, when the Italian's from the Genova came, wanted to conquer the town but after the failure they burned the town. Many years after, Umag has developed on the remains and has preserved the cultural monuments as a part of the historical heritage.

Istria, Porec the Old Town Remains and historical buildings which stayed are spread through the old town and each is telling its story about the past.  Those are: The Town Walls with the town gate and movable bridge built hundred years ago; a Fortress, one of the preserved; today's Town Museum once was one of the town fortresses and also known as a Bishopric Residence; and Baroque and Renaissance buildings.

The town reveals many histroical monuments like the Early Christian Sarcophagus bricked in the bull walks from the 5th century; and stucked Cannon bowl of the Genove army.

Umag Museums

The Umag Museum is a place where are saved and protected the archaeological and historical monuments in orders to transmit to you, their story.

Museum has the A rchaeological Collection of the remains and findings from the various localities; the Archaeological objects from the Roman period like amphora's, roman pots, olive pots and bottles and many more. Other part of the area serves for the exhibitions.

Moreover, this year the ATP is going to be the 20th Tennis Tournament held in Umag. It is the unique tournament for its accompanying entertainment.
