In the year 285 Before the Christ, on the hill above the sea level has settled the town Albona or Alvona. The city got name from the parentage of Illyrians and Celtics. Alvona or Albona means "Town on the Hill". Today, the medieval town Labin is a cultural, historical, artistic and with valuable monuments rounded center of this part Istria.

Labin has two major and important Museums. One is the City Museum consisting the Archaeological and Ethnological collection of the features for this town and its development through the centuries, and the Miners Postulates in the underground showing the mines as once where.
Another is the National Museum placed in the old town in the ex Baroque Palace.
It contains the Memorial Postulate of Matija Vlacic Illyric, known as the founder of Alvona; The Collection of Sacral Arts; The Chronological Review of the Labin history from the Pre-History to the year 1945; Postulate of the Labin Republic; Labin throughout the centuries including their national attire, pottery and musical instruments; and in the Atrium is settled the Lapidarium with the Roman Stone Statues and Monuments.
During the whole year but especially during the summer Labin organizes various thematic evenings, concerts, plays, festivities and many more.
Considering the concerts, here are the two most extended and popular: Labin Art Republic project and Labin Jazz Republic which are the organized concerts, projections, entertainment, dancers, musicians, painters, actors, sculptors and many other performers.
Furthermore, the city arranges the Jazz Quartet Concerts; The Klapa's Concerts; United Festivals which is the concert in the Old Town and many more.
Besides, Labin offers various restaurants, coffee bars, taverns, pizzerias, and b ars. The town has one Night Bar Spider in the old town and a Disco Club Zeus below the old town.
Labin is town near the sea but also near the woods.
