The Peljesac peninsula along with the Istrian peninsula is the second largest peninsula on the Adriatic coast. It is placed on the very south of Dalmatia. It occupies 355 sq km and has a few attractive places which are worth to visit like Ston, Brijesta, Trpanj, Viganj, Orebić and which are famous touristic centers specially in the summer.
It stretches from the isthmus of Ston all the way to Cape Lovista in the northwest and because of this favorable geographic position this peninsula has very good conditions for tourism development. The big part of the t ourism development is a rich cultural and historical heritage visible in many places like churches, villas, monuments and other acts of architecture.
The Pelješac was famous sailors and sailsman center during the time of the development of the small places and villages and its significance.
After many different cultural influences that have passed through the Pelješac and left traces, the Peninsula structured a real mediterranean cultural way of living for its inhabitants. That culture stayed till today which can be recognized between the many notabilities settled over the whole Peninsula.
Although people here live mostly from the tourism, they are also involved in agriculture, fishing, vine yarding, and wine-growing, producing quality wine sorts like Dingač, Postup, Wine from Ston and many more.
There was one naval family named Orebić who returned to the Pelješac and renovated the old castle of the fortified village. After they have given the importance to the village, the governance proclaimed the village name Orebić.
The small village, as once was famously called Villa Rustica, had the sea as the only resource for surviving. Either the sea served for the fishing or for the sailing, anyhow was the main occupation of the inhabitants. After many years, the Pelješac was bought by the Republic of
Dubrovnik
. Under their influence, the Orebić became the important naval center in that region. It was an important ship yard building ships and sailing ships. Today, the naval tradition remained and it is still nourished.
There is an interesting open air theater organizing theatrical and folklore performances during the summer. In that open air theater are organized various exhibitions, classical music concert s, poetry meetings and many more events.
Besides that, Orebić organizes many interesting summer festivals and amusing parties. Those amusement events are: traditional religious and public festivals, traditional sailor and fisherman village night parties which offers fresh fish and homemade vine for everyone.
Such a small settlement has such a great importance which have been stored in the museums. Those are: Maritime Museum; Naval Museum which demonstrates the tradition from the sailors and captains of whole maritime affairs and Our Lady Church and museum.
The exhibitions are usually held in the Gallery of the Church of the Sacred Annunciation in the Maritime Museum and in the cloister of the Franciscan Monastery. Another interesting historical museums, precisely heritages worth to visit are Captain's Houses, Prince's Palace and Captain's Cemetery.
The Orebić has 13 restaurants like "Amfora", "Orebić", "Posejdon" and more; it has 5 taverns like "Pelješki Dvori", "Tavern Maslina"; and it has 13 coffee bars like "Trstenica", "Tri Palme", "Palomino" and much more.
This small settlement has two disco bars, one is on the Trstenica Beach and other is in the Bellevue Hotel.
And the least but not the last are the organized concerts of Classical Music in the Franciscan Monastery and on the open-air Theater.
The Peninsula Pelješac has many natural treasures and valuable sightsee places. Besides that, the Peninsula is full of sport activities, excursions and alike features. The settlement Viganj is placed on the bottom of the Mountain St. Ilija, as well as are placed all the settlements along the Peninsula. It has a very pleasant sky and warm seasons. The flora and fauna is wonderful, the vegetation is rich of exotic Mediterranean plants and herbs and the fields are fertile and provide the excellent growth of olives and figs.
The historical changes left traces on that village as well as on the entire peninsula. Some of the notabilities are; Parish Church of St. Michael from the Gothic period; Dominican Monaster y and Church from the Renaissance time period where are exposed the wooden Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary with the child and bust of a Saint.
The place has many old stone villas and houses which were once homes of the famous sailors and sail man. After was renovated, UNESCO protected those places as a preserved historical monuments and public museums.
This small village has a lot of amusement parties which will attract you and make you feel like home. Viganj does not have tones of fun places, besides have few places which are unique, domestic and amazing.
The summer is always more amusing when the village organizes the Village Festivals which hosts the home bands, Dalmatian "Klapa" songs and offers good homemade vine and fresh fish on the grill. The taverns also organize parties on their terraces concurrent with the old "Klapa" songs and small shows.
This settlement has many bars and coffee bars mostly settled on the beaches. During the summer time, the beach bars organize Beach Parties which attract not only younger population but also every one willing to have fun and party.
The interesting activities which can be done are: surfing, diving in the diving school, mountain biking, hiking on the Mountain, walkin g , kite surfing and many more. During the summer is organized a special event accompanying the sea, sun and fun, called wind surfing. This event, every year attracts huge number of people and hosts various European and Croatian wind surfing competitors.
You can also visit Islands like Korčula and Mljet (National Park) , Dubrovnik and Međugorje Shrine.

Trpanj is another famous and important center with the strong historical changes. In the time when the Monarch Justinijan ruled the entire Pelješac area, he build a Fortress to defense from the intruders. After many years the fortress became the trade mark of the village and was called the "Trpanska Fortress".
Besides that, this small settlement has more notabilities like: Church of St. Peter and Paul which inside hides the statue of the Lady Gospa of Rozarija; Church of the Lady Gospa of Karmela; Church of St. Anthony; Church of St. Roco and Church of St. Nichola.
During the summer, which thick with people, the settlement experiences the rebirth. There are organized Traditional Festivities, Organized "Klapa" Appearances, live concerts for everyone, Fishery Nights, Bowl playing Nights where are served fresh grilled fishes and domestic Pelješac vine.
Besides, there are some Theatralic performances held in the Old Town for those who prefer calm vacation and amusement.
Also, Trpanj offers many coffee bars, Bars, beach parties, live music for youth nad many more interesting events. There is one Disco Club "Plavi Club".
Trpanj has beautiful, mysterious beaches, valleys, coves and curative soil beaches. You can rent a boat or a kayak and experience the beauty of the peninsula's coast from the another perspective.

The Ston Settlement lives for centuries. Many different governances changed and left traces but the last one who occupied the Ston was the Republic of Dubrovnik. They have made the cit y walls alike those from the Republic. Besides that, the Ston survived many changes and till today those changes left reminders which are now of the historical importance.
The walls where the biggest fortification and urban undertaking of that time. The wall streched from the Big to the Small Ston and was the longest wall in the Europe. It contained 40 towers and 5 fortresses. It was of a great importance and was there to protect the country.
Other notabilities are: Curch of St. Mihajlo which is from the pre-Romanesque time which is also the oldest and deservingly Ston cultural notability; Church of the Lady Gospa from Lužina from the Romanesque time; The Big Fortress called "Kaštio " which was defending the city; The Republic of Dubrovnik Chancellery; Ston Palace from the Gothics; The Duke's Palace which was the directorate and headquarters of the Ston's Principality.
The Ston City during the summer organizes the Ston Summer Festival which is an entertaining-cultural manifestation. The Ston Summer also contains: the musical and theatral shows; folklore dances; fashion shows; the concerts of the Croatian bands; the organized Art Colony where held the exhibitions, artists from Croatia and from abroad.
While you are in Ston you must visit the notabilities as well as all the National Parks in the surrounding area.
